Shopping, Dining and Entertainment

Less than ten miles from downtown D.C., Chevy Chase, MD offers a combination of residential community with the close proximity to a wonderful selection of unique, one-of-a-kind eating and shopping options. Chevy Chase also has, or is near, many of your favorite national chain restaurants and retailers.

Sprinkled throughout the community you will find shops offering everything from daily necessities to the high-end luxury retail experience.  There are a number of notable shopping centers.  Mazza Gallerie offers the finest in shopping for discriminating buyers with Nieman Marcus, Ann Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue and more.  The Shops at Wisconsin Place, anchored by Bloomingdale’s and Whole Foods Market, offers a variety of favorite shops including White House | Black Market, Talbots, Eileen Fisher, Anthropolgie and Cole Haan.  The Collection at Chevy Chase is home to Hela Salon & Spa and upscale retailers such as Cartier, Tiffany, Jimmy Choo and Barney’s Co-Op.  The list of shopping venues goes on, with Chevy Chase residents enjoying a bevy of options at hand.

Residents and visitors can choose from a cornucopia of dining opportunities.  The best world cuisine has to offer is easily found, not to mention eateries with a range of ambiences for all occasions.  One example nestled within the neighborhood is La Ferme, serving French cuisine.  Other restaurants include Clyde’s of Chevy Chase, Lia’s and the Capital Grille for some local flavor.

Numerous neighborhood shops also call Chevy Chase home, including Brookville Market, Potomac Pizza, local delis, a pastry shop and the ubiquitous Starbucks (two of them), among others.

Parks and Recreation

There are numerous parks and recreational facilities in Chevy Chase, including the Lawton  Community Center, Norwood Park and Candy Cane Park, to name a few.  There are tennis and basketballs courts, a soccer field, hiking and biking paths and children’s playgrounds.

Recreational points of interest close to Chevy Chase include the National Zoo, Fort Reno Park, Rock Creek Park and Wilson Aquatic Center.  You can take recreation or continuing education classes, play ball in a nearby athletic field, or listen to world-renowned classical artists at Strathmore Hall, which is just a short drive away.

There are also numerous parks, aquatic and equestrian centers, golf courses, trails and athletic facilities, and other cultural and entertainment centers located throughout Montgomery County.


Residents enjoy walking to unique stores and coffee shops via shady, green, tree-lined streets, while prospective residents peruse the neighborhood’s myriad housing options. Housing choices include structures built in the 1920s to the 1940s, as well as newer single-family homes, townhouses and condominiums, with prices ranging in the $300’s for small condominiums to the upper brackets for both luxury houses and condominiums.  

Schools, Health and Transportation

Chevy Chase’s public school needs are served by the Montgomery County School District, the largest school district in the state of Maryland. During the 2009 to 2010 school year, about 141,777 students attended the district’s 200 schools.  

On a related note, Chevy Chase plays host to the National Science Bowl each year at the area’s National 4-H Center.

The main hospitals and medical care centers near Chevy Chase include Suburban Hospital, about two miles away in Bethesda; Sibley Memorial Hospital, about three miles away in Washington, D.C.; and Holy Cross Hospital, about four miles away in Silver Spring.

Transportation options available to residents and visitors of Chevy Chase run the gamut: from two Metro stations and bus service to numerous highways and city streets.  The Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Baltimore Washington International Airport are both short drives away.
